Kia ora, Welcome to our website.
You will have seen we have a wonderful group of students aged 5-13 years, Year 0-8, attending Lake Rerewhakaaitu School. We operate as 4 classrooms with 5 teachers, 3 teacher aides and an office administrator.

Learning and the provision of education has become more complex in many ways as we have move more deeply into a knowledge lead society and economy. Many educational innovations since time began have been driven by the tools and technology available to us and it is very exciting to be involved in enabling students through the use of digital tools. For children to make the most of now and of the possibilities in their future we need to equip them with skills more advanced than just basic reading, writing and maths. We need to hone children's ability to think deeply about issues, to understand and comprehend written, visual and oral texts, to navigate and utilise digital technology, to present their learning and thinking in a variety of ways that will make people sit up and take notice, to be resilient, to understand and articulate their values, to look out for and take care of others in our community and the wider world, and to believe in themselves. (just to name a few) We are lucky to be able to do all of this in a lovely peaceful rural setting beside Lake Rerewhakaaitu and near Mount Tarawera. We are surrounded by farmland and forestry. This helps remind us of the importance of our natural environment and the importance of community, traditions and history.

As a team we provide and resource a future focussed learning environment that provides learners with opportunities to continually develop their strengths and talents across the curriculum - academically, in the arts and in sport, in a collaborative and flexible environment lead by quality teachers.

We have a very supportive and involved community. We appreciate parents and whanau time in helping provide a huge range of activities for the children / tamariki of our community such as te reo, sports coaching, cooking, gardening, reading with children, teaching the haka, volunteering for camps and school trips, running pet day and fundraising.

Our teachers meet with parents each term for half an hour to discuss student progress and achievement. The aim of this is for your child and the teacher to share what your child is doing at school and to give time for you to ask questions and share your ideas too. Our online learning platforms such as google classroom, and the seesaw app also enable parents to keep involved in your child's learning at home and at school.

If you have an idea of a topic for discussion please email: principal@lakerere.school.nz

Nga mihi nui
