Kia ora!

Room 2 is home to a lively and delightful group of 20 Year 3 & 4 students.

Students in Room 3 work in an environment that is supporting their growing independence and learner agency. Digital learning is available through i-pads, a variety of learning applications and SeeSaw digital learning portfolio programme.

The learning day at Lake Rerewhakaaitu is broken into three learning times.  The first two hours, we are focused on literacy. The children are involved in daily writing activities, instructional reading programmes, with time for shared and guided reading.  They have opportunities to collaborate with other learners across the country with the #NZReadAloud and #Chapter Chat reading programmes. Our writing programme is varied and involves writing for authentic purposes and enhancing this through digital literacy tools such as photography, storyboarding, learning videos, and adding captions and examples of our learning. Seesaw allows our student's whanau to access their learning in real time and provide feedback and comments on their children's learning.

The second block of the day is focused on numeracy. Students are building their problem-solving skills as they approach a range of real-world, context-rich math tasks collaboratively. Through this process, they learn how maths can be solved in a range of ways, and develop critical thinking, and learn more efficient approaches. More instructional opportunities with small groups and the teacher are provided, while other students are rotating on a range of learning tasks through bookwork, digital access or games.

The afternoon sessions are filled with a range of physical activity opportunities, arts, inquiry learning, te reo, sign language and science.

Students in Room 2 are also learning the importance of fostering a growth mindset that allows them to more successfully navigate challenging learning and life events. This is further promoted through the weekly practice of mindfulness activities.

Whaea Deb welcomes all whanau to our room to share and be involved in the learning journey of their children.
